about

“Your Own Way” is Fredy V & The Foundation’s first dive into some of the popular African rhythms that are connecting continents today. The song came together after the group’s trip to Fredy’s native country Cape Verde for a performance at the Atlantic Music Expo in 2019. Their time on the island included a meeting with national treasure, artist Mayra Andrade, and a jam session with members of her band under the stars of the Kebra beach. Heavily inspired by their experience, upon their return the band put together a 2-part journey that offers listeners a transatlantic musical voyage where Afro-beat meets Funk. From its deep hypnotic bass line to its percussive tribal rhythms, the influence of West African
musical culture undeniably shapes the sound of the first section of the record. When the chorus comes in, airy and smooth vocals take over and provide an immediate sensual soundscape that reflects one of the main themes of the song, which is the state of enchantment when meeting
someone new. The 2nd act of the song propels the listeners back to the funk. An emotional and epic build-up takes place and Mel Pacifico’s heartfelt vocal performance leads us to the most powerful statement of the record: “We got some for everybody”. When the beat drops, the
throwback house party banger is a contagious anthem that ingrains a mantra we can all live by.

“Your Own Way” - Lyrics
(F. Varre, M. Pacifico)

-

Listen

Been running through my mind
yeah you giving me visions

The water on your skin
makes everything glisten

I see you shining through the distance
yeah this instant, Oouuu I’m wishin’

Want a little taste of
what’s cookin’ in your kitchen

Can you guide me
through your every position

I realize what I been missin’
I’m on a mission

-

Love it when your colors wash over me

Sunlight on your body’s all I can see

Can I get lost in your waves

And we can do it your own way

-

Ain’t nothin’ that I’ve seen before

Each time I see you I want more

Would you allow me to explore
Next to your shore

Every time you give me the low down
Thought I never knew but I now
I really wanna stay hope it’s not too late

Every time you give me the low down
Thought I never knew but I now
Second time around I won’t make you wait

Love it when your colors wash over me

Sunlight on your body’s all I can see

Can I get lost in your waves

And we can do it your own way

Love it when your colors wash over me

Sunlight on your body’s all I can see

Can I get lost in your waves

And we can do it your own way

-

We all started from nothing
Now we got some for everybody

We held on to the reason
We got some for everybody

We always been here dreaming
Now we got some for everybody

So if you need healin’
We got some for everybody

(We got some for everybody)
(We got some for everybody)
(We got some for everybody)
