about

“I Could Be” is a song full of sensuality where the group showcases the richness of their textures while showcasing intricate rhythmic patterns. When listening to the song you can tell that the group created a fresh way to incorporate specific African rhythms into their trademark modern funk and R&B. The track starts with warm ambient synths which set the comforting mood. When the congas fade in, listeners are carried away to a large bond fire on a beach under a full moon. Although Fredy V is known more as a power funk singer, here he showcases his most vulnerable vocal performance to date. When the song reaches the chorus, bassist Paul Charles kicks down the door with a groove that has equal levels of melodic sweetness and low end nastiness. Mel and Fredy’s vocal slides and crescendos are like refreshing waves to the ears as the two blend their voices seamlessly. During the breakdown after the first chorus, the group opens the door to its audience showing how the synth lead by David Osei-Afrifa, the soukous guitar styles of Frank O and a
unique pattern of claps come together into an Afro-futuristic gumbo.
Lyrically the song pays homage to the people who have helped each respective member realize their full potential and purpose. Be it a partner, mentor, best friend, lover or parent there are individuals who come into our lives and help elevate us to the best version of ourselves. Lines such as “you were meant to be the one to help me find my flow” and “you gave me the feeling, now I’m believing in everything I could be” convey the ultimate sentiment of gratitude.

I COULD BE - Lyrics
(F. Varre, M. Pacifico)

Never been too been high
But I sure been low
Couldn’t realign
Now that I think about it

Time is moving fast
I been riding slow
And to my surprise
You wrapped me with your lovin’

Pre-Chorus
You give feels I never felt before
You were meant to be the one to help me find my flow

And if I fall you’ll never let me go
Take me to the limit
Showed me how to live it, yeah

-

(Ooouuuu)
I’ll always remember
The day you came over
So precious and tender, yeah

(Ooouuu)
You gave me the feeling
And now I’m believing
In everything I could be

(Ooouuuu)
I’ll always remember
The day you came over
So precious and tender, yeah

(Ooouuu)
You gave me the feeling
And now I’m believing
In everything I could be
-

Got this burning fire
I find it hard to tame it
You came with your water
My heart you claimed it

With your arms open wide
I finally surrender
Saved me from drowning under
Your tide takes me higher

-

You give feels I never felt before
You were meant to be the one to help me find my flow

And if I fall you’ll never let me go
Take me to the limit
Showed me how to live it, yeah

-

(Ooouuuu)
I’ll always remember
The day you came over
So precious and tender, yeah

(Ooouuu)
You gave me the feeling
And now I’m believing
In everything I could be

(Ooouuuu)
I’ll always remember
The day you came over
So precious and tender, yeah

(Ooouuu)
You gave me the feeling
And now I’m believing
In everything I could be
