about

“45” is the electro pop funk gem of The Foundation’s repertoire. This late 80s throwback tribute is an uptempo workout perfect for all fitness activities and playlists. Drenched in nostalgic funk, the group show that they are true students of the game by channeling the rhythmic pocket of
classics like Sheila E’s “Glamorous Life” or even the song in tribute to her “Oh Sheila” by Ready For The World. The song begins with a beautiful arpeggio of synths as the entire group gathers around a mic
recording claps and tribal sounds reminiscent of a sports team huddle before running out into the field. The beat drops and producer Caulder Nash splashes the track with an impressive array of highly pristine synth patches like colourful paint on a canvas. The alignment of the
drums, percussions, synth punches and a precise synth bass make it hard for the body to resist movement. In the spirit of duos like Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle, Fredy and Mel execute a classic R&B / Pop duet as the two trade off sections and rejoin in the chorus. In addition to the vintage flavor, lyrically the group brings a modern sensibility to a classic vibe. At the surface the song sounds like a regular party anthem. But when you listen closer, you can hear the story of somebody afraid to dance in public; hinting to past experiences of body shaming. Fredy and Mel play the role of party starters as they encourage body positivity, fitness and physical expression. Lets create a judgment free dance floor for the entire planet.

45 (Lyrics)
(F. Varre, M. Pacifico)

Spotlight
Is shining on you baby
My eyes been on you lately
Imagination running wild

So tell me would you hold my hand
I’d love it if ya would take a chance
So trust in me i’ll make you dance
Our fantasy will come alive

-

Won’t you come step into the light
(I see you hiding in the corner baby)

Just lose yourself relieve your mind

-

I’m gonna work that body right till the morning light

We got you spinning round and round like a forty five

-

I see you against the wall
Now let’s do something about it

So whatchu waitin’ for
I think it’s time to jump on it

You didn’t come all this way
Just to be people watchin’

You betta take yo place
Now honey show me how you do

Don’t let nobody talk about it
If you about it move your body
So one two step into the party
And we gon’ make you stay in for the night

-

I’m gonna work that body right till the morning light

We got you spinning round and round like a forty five

I’m gonna work that body right till the morning light

We got you spinning round and round like a forty five
(Show me how how do)

(Morning light)

(Forty five)
